After doing a very quick search on Google by typing in one word “diet” one becomes overwhelmed by the choices. This presents many problems since being overweight is a complex issue of food, emotions and outlook. If people are just jumping from one diet to another with the hope of taking control of their life with no real research then they most likely will continue the same pattern. I’m not sure that even the medical profession can keep up with all the new programs that come out. One thing is for sure is we are a nation of food and drink consumers and I will bet that the amount of calories and grams of fat we take in are far higher than is was 40 years ago. Look at how much coffee we consume, just go into the any Tim Horton’s and watch all the double, double or triple, triple ones that are passed over the counter. That alone is a pile of sugar and cream and we continue to consume. So then we decide to look for a diet that could help us and we begin to do some searches where after typing in the word “diet” 29,300,000 results are listed. I would say that if we lived to be 300 years old we couldn’t look at all the stuff listed so yes being overwhelmed is in order. Perhaps looking at what we want from a weight loss program could be a start since losing weight is a term that can imply many different meanings.

    Does it mean?

    Eating Healthier

    Sleeping Better

    Drinking Less

    Exercising more

    Making informed food choices

    Making lifestyle changes

    Making social changes

    Changing daily patterns

    Going out less

Perhaps we need to ask ourselves the right questions and start by “what do we want from this program” and how long is it going to take me and what am I willing to do in order to accomplish this endeavour”. When we can answer those questions honestly then we can narrow down our choices of diets programs and select a few to research. If you continue to jump from one to another with the faint hope of success then the only thing that will get slimmer is your wallet. There is no easy solution to losing weight and no 15 minute a day program is going to get you to that destination.

Take some time to look at what you are willing to do.
